Data Backup
Keeping files stored properly saves you in an emergency. Learn how.
Why Backup?

Hard Drives vs. The Cloud: Pros and Cons
When performing a backup, decide whether a local external hard drive or the cloud would be best for you.
Hard Drives
External hard drives are readily available at electronics stores for a one-time fee, and let you maintain physical ownership over your data. However, external hard drives can get damaged or stolen.
The Cloud
All you need to back up your data to the cloud is an internet connection and your account credentials to retrieve your information.
Now the downside: you will have to trust the cloud service you choose to protect your information and some services may involve ongoing costs as opposed to a one-time fee.
Northeastern Cloud Options
Faculty, staff, and students have the option to backup their data to Microsoft OneDrive.
Faculty and staff may also back up data using the service Code42, however this comes with a subscription fee. See below for instructions on backing-up from your Windows or Mac.
